Students

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) is excited to offer graduate and advanced undergraduate students the opportunity to join the Fusion Energy Summer Research Program. Our interns work on real-world challenges that have a profound impact on the future of fusion energy.

This flexible summer internship program runs for at least 10 weeks. As a participant, you’ll apply your knowledge, enthusiasm, and skills in physics, engineering, optics, computational modeling, and related fields to advance the science and technology of fusion energy.

LLNL’s cutting-edge research is driving breakthroughs in national security and energy innovation. As you dive into your summer projects, we hope you take advantage of the opportunity to learn what it’s like to be part of the LLNL team. Research with a mission focus sits at a unique juncture between academia and private-sector industrial R&D. This blend of goal-driven fundamental discovery appeals to world-class researchers and experts in the many fields that intersect with inertial fusion energy. Come to the laboratory where star fire was first ignited on Earth and help bring an abundant and safe source of reliable energy to life!
